Top Archery 52” Mongolian Horse Bow

Top Archery Mongolian Horse Bow

Another Top Archery bow, this time I played around with a Mongolian horse bow which I ordered at 20 lbs. This is the first bow that's draw weight was exactly what it says it is. My first pull with a weight scale and in stopped right on 20.00 lbs. This little bow cost me $79.

The limbs are lacquered and it arrived with a cord in place of the draw string (that was in a bag). The cord was applied before the lacquer was completely dry, when I pulled it back, the lacquered cracked and had me thinking I cracked the bow, lol. Happy that wasn’t the case.

Originally this was going to be a display piece hung over a doorway, what I wasn't expecting was having so much fun shooting this indoors. It's 20 lbs, not a heavy bow at all, It was supposed to be a novelty and shooting it outside was pretty hilarious as the first arrow I shot missed the target and bounced off the backboard, I almost doubled over laughing as the arrow just fell backwards onto the ground. I wasn’t going to review this one, it’s for decorations.

It wasn't until later in the evening I came to really appreciate this bow. It shoots pretty solidly at short distances, I found it's great for when whether permits me from shooting outside, now I have an indoor set up I am working on because this bow is too much fun at short distances. The draw length on this little bow is 30 inches, perfect for me.

I found it shoots a 800 spine fiberglass arrow pretty well. They are practice arrows with a fairly blunt tip, but it still pierces the target I am shooting at. Once I get a chance I will shoot this through the chronograph. Just for fun I made 2 new size arrows for this a 700 spine with a 75 grain tip and a 1000 spine with a 75 grain tip. Both arrows made from carbon fiber and measure 4.2 mm. They are tiny, but very punchy and do well indoors, sticking into the target with ease.

Shooting through the chronograph the results were surprising. The fiberglass 800 spine arrow clocked in a top speed of 94 FPS. The carbon fiber 700 spine shot a top speed of 133 and the 1000 spine carbon fiber arrow rocked 123 FPS. This little bow that made me laugh on the first shot, has surprised me and I love it. I have shot close to 509 arrows through this Boe amd it is still and strong and snappy as I started with. It is light weight and nimble.

The limbs pull really easily, though again it's 20 lbs, very light. I find it fun to shoot off the hand rather than a rest or shelf. I tried using a hand guard and didn't like it at all, the one I got I thought would be more like a glove, rather it slips over the thumb and index finger. Rather than trying to fight with it, I changed to a leather deer skin glove and it is much more comfortable.

This little bow has impressed me so much, I'm now looking at possibly buying a Turkish horse bow or a Tatar Horse Bow in a 35-40 lbs draw. They are both really similar, sligjtly different builds and sizes. We’ll see.
