AF Archery 62 inch longbow 40 lbs

I really wanted to try out another longbow and I found this one for $110. Why I chose this long bow, um, good question. I wanted to go for a 1 piece bow with an arrow shelf I could shoot off of rather than using my hand. AF Archery seems to make a lot of one piece bows and I see their name pop up now and then on forums and they have a few different bows I want to try. So my first bow from them is this beautiful longbow.

This bow arrived in a busted up box the top was literally torn off and I was worried it was damaged, luckily the bow survived without a scratch. When I pulled it out I was really impressed with how light the bow felt. It has a gorgeous handle that is comfortable to hold, the pictures I saw online did not make it look as good as it does in person.

I couldn't resist to string it up and take a couple shots at my indoor target, this bow immediately impressed me with the first few arrows I put through it and I was left wanting the next day to arrive so I could take this outside and shoot more. It felt so effortless and easy to shoot. It isn't loud and it has a great feel to it while shooting. Oh yeah, at my full draw length, the draw weight was hitting 43.50 lbs

It isn't punchy, the shots are smooth and penetrated the target with ease, it's simply fun. This is a fun bow. After shooting 100 arrows with it I figured that was a good day for the first time taking this out, but I kept shooting. I didn't want to put this bow down. I really was having too much fun.

I did put some arrows through the chronograph and I'm really liking the performance of 600 spine arrows with this over the others I tried. Below is the results from the chronograph. Oh, all the arrows were carbon fiber. The 500 spine are 6 mm diameter arrows, the rest are 4.2 mm, so smaller and they tend to have a quicker flight.

300 spine - 175 fps
500 spine - 165 fps
600 spine - 206 fps
700 spine - 191 fps.

The 600s were moving! I am impressed by that, Maybe because it's such a light bow, it weighs 1 lbs 04 oz. It's so light, you almost forget you are even holding it.

My arrow collection is still a work in progress. I have several different spines, materials, lengths, etc yet I feel it is still lacking... this hobby, I can't get enough of it.

Anyhoo, back to the bow. It's one of my favorites. Something I noticed when I let off the string wrong, it has an interesting ping sound rather than thumps or strums. It sounds different than all the other bows I've shot, makes it unique in its own way.

After shooting for over an hour at a time with this bow, I found I'm not worn out. I'm relaxed and happy with my shots. I was really impressed one Friday after work. I was in a good mood and was eager to get this bow outside, I was a little off, but by the 3rd set my groupings tightened up and I was really satisfied with that practice session.

There is something about archery that has me so captivated. The bows to start are a work of art, they each perform in their own way that takes time to get to know. When you're dialed in, you feel the string let go of your fingers and the vanes wisp air just so gently against your cheek, you feel the bow release all it's energy just behind the arrow and push it forward. Watching the arrow rush forward, just flexing just as it passes past the handle. You watch it fly to the target, with just an ever so light flex as it makes impact with the target, you can almost feel the thud it makes as it penetrates the intended target. There's a rush of satisfaction... then you do it all over again.

This bow, yeah I like this bow and will be shooting it for a long time. I'm gonna have to look for more longbows, this one changed my mind. There's a few I'm looking at now, it's gonna be fun.
